The regular monthly
meeting of the West Pittston Shade Tree
Commission was held on Monday,
June 16, 2008, at 7:00p.m., in the conference room of the West Pittston Borough Building. Commission members answering roll call: Pres. McHugh, Vice-President Berti, Treasurer
Orth and Secretary Mansi. Others in
attendance included DCNR representative Andrew Duncan and resident, Mrs.
Welliver.
Pledge of
Allegiance was led by Pres. McHugh.
I. Reading and Approval of Minutes
On motion of McHugh,
seconded by Orth minutes of the May 19, 2008 meeting were read and approved.
II. Reports
- Treasurer Orth reported an account
balance of $8,569.50.
- Deposits included: $5.00 for Calabrese permit, $105.00
Botteon permit and deposit, $105.00 DeAngelo permit and deposit, $105.00
Smith permit and deposit.
- Disbursements included: $6.99 for the
WPSTC website.
D. On motion of McHugh seconded by Mansi and
Berti the treasurer’s report was accepted through 05/19/08.
III. Unfinished Business and New Business
- Tree Topping and Application: WPSTC to place informational ad in local
newspapers regarding tree topping, fall planting and application process. Ad to be given to Andrew Duncan for
placement. Sec. Mansi and Pres.
McHugh to follow up.
- Tree Vitalize: Tentative schedule for the Wyoming Valley is spring 2009.
- Mrs. Welliver, 326 Parke, 654-1474: WPSTC unanimously agrees to removal of
hazardous tree without replacement.
Vice Pres. Berti to follow up with Busy Beaver.
- 721 Luzerne Ave.:
WPSTC accepts request for
removal.
- 206 Delaware Ave.: Firestine residence. WPSTC accepts request for removal.
- 517 Second St:
Zanobi residence. New
request for pruning. WPSTC to
follow up.
- 130 Philadelphia Ave.:
Klinefelder residence. New
request for removal. WPSTC to follow up.
- 127 Washington St.:
New request for removal.
Ray’s Tree Service is listed as the contractor. WPSTC to follow up.
- 309 Spring St.:
New request Per Mayor, review hazardous tree. Need to send a letter to the
resident. Sec. Mansi to follow
up.
- Wall and Baldiga: Estimates of tree valuation to be done
by a certified arborist.
- 224 Linden St.:
Turner residence. Requested
a red maple for fall planting.
WPSTC to follow up during fall planting.
- Fifth St. and Delaware:
Remind resident the stump has to be ground and tree replaced. Pres. McHugh and Sec. Mansi to follow
up.
- Exeter and Spring Sts.: Resident Paula Bubblo wants to preserve
trees however discussions continue regarding safety of Exeter Ave. and Spring St. due to speeding cars,
trucks, visibility, etc.
- Wyoming Avenue:
Tree damage. Incident report
received.
- 2009 Summer Meeting: To be held in West Pittston as agreed upon by Vinnie Cotrone.
- Stump Survey: WPSTC to begin sending letters to
homeowners who must remove stumps.
Schedule to send letters by end of summer to allow residents time
to respond and follow through.
- Permits: WPSTC agree to issue permits along with a
copy of the borough code. Sec.
Mansi to follow up.

On
motion of McHugh, seconded by Mansi, the meeting was adjourned at approximately
8:40
p.m.
